Mummy blogger Jolene Monaghan shortlisted for award

NEWTOWNBUTLER mum, Jolene Monaghan is an online force to be reckoned with.

The mum of one who now lives in Dublin has been shortlisted in the Best Parenting Blog section of the Boots Maternity and Infant Awards.

It is the third year in a row that her Food and Parenting blog, One Yummy Mummy has made the shortlist in the prestigious awards since setting it up just a few short years ago.

With a background in childcare, a passion for nutritious food, hands on experience as a mum herself and ambition by the bucketload, Jolene was armed with the tools she needed to step away from full-time employment and become a ‘stay at home mum’, while working on her blog.

With her three-year-old daughter, Lily Mae as the inspiration and motivation behind her success, One Yummy Mummy is now a multi-award winning Irish Food and Parenting Blog.

“My following of over 260,000 readers is growing by the day,” she says.

“Many of my recipes now are featured on the first page of Google, recipes including Cloud Bread Pizza and my ‘Chicken Curry In A Hurry’ has become a household name.”

Jolene believes her recipe for success is making real food for real families, “without any hidden nasties or fancy ingredients that put the everyday cook off cooking”.

“I also have great enthusiasm for ‘kids in the Kitchen’,” says Jolene.

“Cooking with children gives them a huge sense of worth, building self-esteem and pride in themselves. One of my favourite quotes is ‘happiness is children eating their food no matter what’.

She has worked with brands like Netflix and Dyson in the past and has a “very exciting collaboration” with a popular Irish food brand in the pipeline, but the best part of the blog for Jolene is the photos and messages she receives from mothers who are cooking her recipes for their children.

“I’ve heard from mothers who had just given up on cooking altogether but say now my recipes are the only ones their children will eat, some kids will even ask: ‘Is this a Yummy mummy recipe?’”

Jolene also uses her blog to cover her own honest parenting stories: “I like to portray honesty and although I am passionate about home cooking and my recipes, it by no way means I’m the perfect parent, I’m winging it by the day!” says Jolene.

One Yummy Mummy has earned Jolene a Maternity and Infant Best Parenting Blog Gold award in 2015, and a Silver in 2016. Her blog was also a winner in the Tesco Foodie Challenge 2016 and a finalist in the Blog Awards Ireland 2016.

According to Jolene, One Yummy Mummy has a social media presence of around 30,000 followers.

“What is next for One Yummy Mummy? I’m writing a cook book with 105 of my most popular recipes, so that’s my main focus at the minute,” says Jolene, “It’s going to be a no-frills cook book, filled with my budget-friendly, easy to cook, tasty family recipes.”

The Maternity and Infant awards are held in October each year, where the winners are announced at a glittering award ceremony. The top 10 parenting blogs have been shortlisted out of a long list of nominations.

Jolene is relying on the ‘home crowd’ to get behind her and vote for One Yummy Mummy in the Maternity and Infant Awards.
