Each week, the Coloradoan writes a Before You Go feature. Here's an inside look at how we pick businesses to preview for you. Wochit
Name of business: Toppers Pizza
Where it's located: 1501 W Elizabeth St.
Why try now? This carryout and delivery pizza shop opened its first Fort Collins location in late August. It specializes in its house-made pizza dough and specialty cheesy bread sticks called TopperStix.
The scene: Perhaps the best thing about Toppers is that if you don't want to swap out your comfy weekend sweats for something more presentable, you don't have to. Toppers can bring your dinner right to your doorstep. If you decide to head to the restaurant, you'll find a small, brightly colored dining area with a walk-up counter.
What to know before you go: Toppers has an easy-to-use online ordering system that made planning dinner a breeze. Make sure to check out the "deals" tab on the site's homepage for the best prices on pizzas, TopperStix and desserts (or all of the above). Using these deals, I was able to get a medium specialty pizza, an order or TopperStix and a soda for about $22.
You can choose from the selection of specialty pies which include some classic pizza options (veggie, meat, Hawaiian, etc.) as well as some more outlandish creations such as the Mac 'N Cheese pizza or the Tot-zza, which has tater tots, nacho cheese and bacon. You can also go the simple route and pick individual toppings.
TopperStix are the restaurant's most unique and delicious offering. Like the pizza, the TopperStix range from traditional cheesy bread to more adventurous recipes like the TacoStix and BaconStix. If you have a sweet tooth, make sure you try the CinnaStix.
And if a large, greasy pizza isn't exactly what you're craving, Toppers also has roasted chicken wings and buffalo wings with a variety of sauces.
