(WRDW/WAGT) -- Trying to find the “perfect gift” for someone comes in stages, first, you procrastinate the idea because surely that gift will speak to you and that’s how you’ll know it perfect.

Then you realize the day is drawing near so you really start getting serious and the hunt begins. However, nothing seems right because you want it to mean something (I mean, the person you’re buying for means so much to you), but everything you come across just doesn’t seem to fit into the budget you have. Anxiety starts to set in and you either just buy whatever or put money in an envelope and call it done.

Instead of the usual, allow me to offer you some alternative gift-giving options. They have just as much sincerity as the hottest gift this season, namely because it comes from you. We’ve all heard the phrase “it’s not the gift, it’s the thought that counts”.

Here’s to “the thoughts that count” this gift-giving season:

Offer to pay a bill, like rent or a gas bill. Wouldn’t it be nice to not have to worry about a bill for the month?

Better Homes & Gardens can offer you more alternative ideas. Send a card to a soldier or make an emergency gift basket.

May that special person in your life wants to learn something new, so how about signing them up for a class (sewing, flower arranging, and beer brewing). Click Here to learn more.

Homemade gifts are usually remembered the most buynothingchristmas.org has everything you need to put together the most heartfelt options.

Don’t’ forget the kids, ever wished you could spend the day at the amusement park. Maybe you have a young chef, sign up for a cooking class together.

For those of us looking for more affordable ideas…ever attended an abundance swap? How about an ornament exchange? Lots of affordable ideas here.

Let us know what you like. Did you try one of these ideas out or do you have any ideas we skipped over? Send us a picture or shoot us an email, Facebook, or send us a Tweet.
