Tim and Kelly Paslawski of Savannah just announced plans to open a Chicken Salad Chick restaurant in Statesboro.
The new eatery will be located in the former Blockbuster location at 719 Northside Drive East, behind the Chick-fil-A and Longhorn restaurants. Renovations are underway and they hope to start serving customers in late October or early November.
The Statesboro restaurant will be the Paslawski's third Chicken Salad Chick. They opened their first in midtown Savannah in 2014 and the second in Pooler in 2015.
The Chicken Salad Chick concept, born in Auburn, Ala., was established in 2008 in the kitchen of founder Stacy Brown.
At that that time, Brown was told by the local county health department she would not be allowed to continue making and selling her own recipes out of her home kitchen She overcame that obstacle by launching her first restaurant with the business expertise of her future husband and fellow founder, Kevin Brown. Together, they opened a small takeout restaurant, which quickly grew. The company now has more than 70 restaurants across the Southeast.
Chicken Salad Chick puts an edgy twist on a Southern classic, offering guests a "custom fit" chicken salad experience, with more than a dozen original flavors to choose from, as well as gourmet soups, flavorful side salads and freshly-baked desserts.
Today, the brand has more than 70 locations across the Southeast and has currently sold 146 more franchises to be developed across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Louisiana and Texas.
The brand was recently named as the top chicken salad to try in the country in the 2015 March/April issue of "Cooking with Paula Deen," as well as one of FastCasual.com's top "Movers and Shakers" and one of NRN's 2015 Breakout Brands. Chicken Salad Chick also ranked #37 on Inc.'s annual list of the 500 fastest-growing companies in the U.S. Their corporate offices are located in Auburn.
The founders of Chicken Salad Chick, Kevin and Stacy Brown, believe the most important character trait necessary to be able to run a successful "Chick" is to have a servant's heart. Each franchise owner has been carefully selected and proven to be passionate about serving people.
Statesboro franchise owners Tim and Kelly Paslawski met when they were students at UGA. Kelly grew up in Athens and Tim in the D.C. area. Tim is a former active duty Marine. They have lived in Savannah twice before relocating back to the area for good.
Tim was traveling extensively with his job in sales when he discovered Chicken Salad Chick. Tired of the usual fried options, Tim instantly fell in love with Chicken Salad Chick and started bringing home different flavors to share. When he brought the Classic Carol and Pimento cheese to his mother-in-law, she told him "It was the best I have ever eaten!"
They knew at that point they wanted to be part of the Chicken Salad Chick family.
Kelly's favorite Chick is Sassy Scotty and Tim's favorite is Jazzy Julie.
They are excited about becoming part of the Statesboro business community and will look for opportunities to share samples of their products to promote their opening.
